About BIA

Student Services & Wellbeing

A caring community that supports every child’s learning, health and personal development.

Our Approach

Supporting the Whole Child

Brighton International Academy is a caring community. Alongside high-quality teaching, the Academy provides a range of professionally staffed services that support students in their learning and attend to their social, emotional and physical wellbeing. These services work in close coordination with families, so that every child receives timely and appropriate support.

Services

Student Services at a Glance

The class teacher is each child’s first point of contact and primary source of day-to-day pastoral support. Teachers monitor students’ wellbeing, behaviour and progress, and work with parents and with senior staff to address any concern promptly. Floor monitors in each building support safe and orderly movement throughout the school day.

The Academy is committed to making the curriculum accessible to every learner. Where a teacher identifies that a student may need additional support, the Academy follows a staged approach: adapted classroom teaching and differentiation; consultation with parents; closer observation and, where appropriate, referral for specialist external assessment; and an individual support plan with clear targets that are reviewed regularly.

The school social worker supports students’ social and emotional wellbeing, helps them to navigate difficulties with peers or at home, and acts as a link between the Academy and families. Parents are welcome to contact the social worker in confidence.

The school clinic, established in accordance with Ministry of Public Health guidelines and staffed by a school nurse, provides first aid, manages students’ ongoing health needs in partnership with parents, and promotes healthy habits. Parents are asked to keep the Academy informed of any medical condition, medication or allergy.

The library promotes a lifelong love of reading. Students borrow books regularly, are guided in selecting texts suited to their reading level, and may request titles that the Academy endeavours to obtain.

Regular attendance and punctuality are essential to learning. The Academy records attendance daily in line with Ministry regulations, contacts parents about unexplained absence, and asks that planned absences be requested in advance and that absence through illness be reported on the same day.

The on-campus mosque and the Al Ghars Al Hasan programme support students’ spiritual development, while the Academy’s emphasis on moral values is reinforced across the curriculum and daily school life.
